ID Carpet is a new position detection method of a user, which can be applied to augmented reality systems and to real-world oriented interfaces. This method uses inexpensive RFID tags which are pasted on the floor to indicate position. One of these tags is detected by a RFID reader which is equipped on foot-ware, wearable devices, and carts accompanied by users.
We have implemented a footware named NaviGeta with RFID reader to
detect one of RFIDs on the ID Carpet. By using this device, the
position of a user can be detected by inexpensive and scale-able
cost.
By using the Virtual Glassboat on the ID Carpet, we can enhance the operational area of this system to, for example, a very large room, without losing accuracy.
